My role is changing. Instead of teaching all grades of students with intensive disabilities, I will focus on 3rd grade students of all disabilities. I am happy that I get to keep working with "my boys" that I have taught for many years as a self-contained teacher, and adding new students who need more support. This will give students more time in their general education classroom where they will learn with their peers, learning grade level curriculum and standards. I will be co-teaching with the 3rd grade team of teachers and doing some resource pull out to work on specific areas of need.
We are a "Leader In Me" school where everyone can be a leader.
Everyone has genius, and we develop the whole child by building relationships and empowering students. We are a diverse community. Despite our large size (over 1000 students), we partner up for many things and relationships are built beyond your own classroom. We do club days where students from multiple grades work together on things that interest them. Older students often give up their recess to help the younger students practice sight words and math facts. At ERES - where Learners and Leaders SHINE!
My Project
Students who struggle in math don't always have parents and family members who can help them with their homework. Math is taught differently now than when their parents went to school and not all families know how to help their struggling child. 3rd grade is intense with multiplication and division, elapsed time, equivalent fractions, area and perimeter.
Game night will increase family engagement with parents taking an active role in increasing their students' learning of these difficult new math skills.
Each week during the school year, I will select a game or puzzle set to go home with a student based on their IEP goals and what they are working on in class. Families will play the learning games as their math homework for the week and then return it with a short response of the learning and struggles their child had. The specific communication will encourage families and teachers to work as a team on their child's goals and learning which will boost their academic success which will be measured in their IEP goals progress monitoring.
