My Students
I teach a Kindergarten and 1st grade multi-age classroom at an urban school district in Washington. Many students at our school come from low socio-economic backgrounds and need all of the resources they can get at school!
I am a second year teacher needing some help to equip my classroom with a math games center for a new end-of-the-day math block.
This new math games block has been inspired by our math club at our school. Students have been enjoying and learning so much at math club - a big part of the fun is the new math games that have been funded - through donorschoose.org! I also want to instill this excitement about math to all of my students. I know they can build this motivation to learn math through these games that are both engaging and so attractive to work with!
My Project
In this project, I have requested a ready-to-use math learning center activity set along with other math manipulatives as teaching tools. The math center activities include centers focusing on: place value, data/graphing, money, time, and addition/subtraction. These are critical areas in math that need to be supplemented to our math curriculum. Students will be able to work with partners on these math games that will not only teach math skills, but cooperative and sharing/team-building skills.
