Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are energetic kids eager to learn. Over 90% of our students come from low-income households. A large percentage of our families meet the definition of homeless, living in garages or multiple families in one residence. My kids' parents are struggling to pay rent and get food on the table. And yet, our children still want to create, read, write, and learn!
My students worry about coming to school and staying safe; and yet, they still come to school to explore, learn and grow.
I am working to meet my students' needs emotionally, as well as academically, during this pandemic. I want them to be safe and stay healthy as they work hard to learn to read, learn to use technology, and at the same time, learn language arts, math, science, and social studies.
My Project
Math games are a way for children to learn their math facts through play. Children manipulate the pieces. They count them. They observe time passing. They create shapes and designs.
The math games and materials that I am requesting will help my students to learn their addition facts, number bonds, geometry and time.
The Magna-Tiles help children learn about shapes and connections. They also teach my students about three-dimensional objects. The timer will teach the passing of time and help my students to learn about budgeting their time and using time wisely. The pop-up games will teach them how to add objects and numbers up to 30.
Math skills are essential to success in life. These games and materials will help my students to learn math facts. They will help my students to succeed. Thank you for considering my grant for your donation.
