My Students
Our students are incredibly curious and active! They enjoy hands-on learning that allow them to make real-world connections and applications.
Our students are also unique and innovative creators!
We would like to provide students opportunities to utilize their knowledge to create something new, whether it's slideshows about a country they've studied to code for a game they'd like to invent! Instead of being passive learners, our students enjoy being active participants in the creation of something new so that they can pass on their knowledge and unique perspectives to others!
My Project
Our 5th graders would like to create math board games to pass along their knowledge of math to future 5th graders!
These board games will help pass on the great wealth of math knowledge our students have to the next generation of mathematicians!
We'll also enter their projects into the national Game-A-Thon Contest for 2018!
The mark of a great mathematician is his or her ability to communicate their understanding to others! What better way to celebrate math and bring it to life than to create unique games for others? Each group of students will focus on a specific standard from the year (adding and subtracting fractions, multiplying fractions, dividing fractions, volume, decimal multiplying and division, decimal addition and subtraction). The blank game boards will be used by each group to create a layout for their specific game. The fine tip markers will be used to add color, detail, and instructions to their board games. The blank cards will be used to create math problems for solving. The pawns will be used as pieces for their board game.
By creating these games, students will not only solidify their own understanding of math, but also be able to share the joys of math with others!
