Math Fun With Families

Help me give my students Teachers Pay Teachers resources, storage bags, and other materials to make take-home games to practice their math skills while spending time with their families.

My Students

I teach in a low-income/high-poverty area. Most of my students come from broken homes, and many have had drugs impact their lives. My goal is to make school a safe place for them, someplace where they come and know they are safe and where someone has put their best interests first.

I try to create hands-on projects that the students will enjoy.

I find that my students learn best that way. Hands-on projects help to hold my students' interests better and help them focus.

My Project

What could be better than practicing your math skills while having fun with your family? Nothing!

I want to encourage families to spend more time together and have fun while practicing their math skills.

Students need to practice their basic skills to become more fluent. Math will only get more difficult but if they can get the basics down, they can build on what they know. If practicing the basic facts is fun, they will be more likely to learn.

There are a lot of fun math games on Teachers Pay Teachers, a website that has materials made by teachers for teachers. I would use the gift cards to purchase games that would then be printed on the card stock for durability.

After the games are printed they will then be laminated so they will last longer. The game boards will be placed into the storage bags and any small game pieces will be in the sandwich bags. The dice will be available for games that require dice to play.

Then the games will be introduced to the students in class and sent home for them to show their families and play, play, play!
