My Students

We will always have STEM with us. Some things will drop out of the public eye and go away, but there will always be science, engineering, and technology. And there will always, always be mathematics.

— Katherine Johnson, African-American mathematician

I have an amazing class of 28 curious and energetic first graders. First grade is a year of exponential growth. As a teacher who loves math and loves teaching math, I strive to foster a classroom environment that encourages and embraces not only a love for math but a love for learning.

Our school honors diversity and inclusion and we realize our children are not blank slates. Every child comes to school with experiences that enhance the learning of others. As one of a kind STEAM and Classical Elementary School in Chicago, we have the unique opportunity to provide a culture of enriched learning.

My Project

The use of math games is a daily activity in my classroom. Using the workshop model in math, students engage in math games as part of their math workstations. Playing math games in first grade is an important element in developing peer social skills.

By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve math skills you will ultimately help to increase confidence in problem-solving.

My goal with math games is to help children grow in their math knowledge and skills while practicing important social skills such as sharing, taking turns, encouraging one another, and asking questions.
