My goal of the listening center is to provide my amazing first graders with an inclusive way to to explore culture, language, and nonfiction text. My goal is for them is to begin to understand the world around them as they begin to define their identity as readers and contributors of a community of learners. My classroom is a place that honors and understands the importance of language and how it relates to culture. Every book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care. Audio books give students who are not yet reading a chance to explore culture and language while learning how to read. All of these audio books have been chosen with my students in mind-I have watched them the past few weeks of school and see their abundance of curiosity especially when reading to them. My students will be able to choose audio books based on their own interests. The listening center and audio books selected will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create.
