My Students
My math students work collaboratively in groups and take initiative for their own learning. They design math projects that relate to real world experiences like how to budget money and plan for the future. This requires hands on manipulatives to ensure complete understanding.
My students are curious and creative.
They desire to learn as much as they can in all academic areas but have a zeal for math. They enjoy working in collaborative groups and like to create and design projects, for example, their dream playground. My school has a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds.
My Project
My students will use the hands on manipulatives to help them make abstract concepts become concrete and easily understood. They need to be able to visualize and maneuver math manipulative's for optimal understanding of difficult concepts. They will share these hands on tools with each other as well as the grade level. Thereby impacting as many as 100 students each day. They will use the real world activity cards as problem solving boosters to foster critical thinking skills.
Donations to this project are crucial.
It will not be possible for my students to have a hands on experience without them. Put simply, students can not achieve the learning goals and high expectations set before them from a math book only. They must have these manipulative's to make math real to them. Right now they have a zest for learning math and I need these materials to nurture that zest.
