This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Students who enter my first grade classroom come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. The one thing that they have in common is they are insightful, inquisitive youngsters who are ready to learn. We have fun, yet focused days filled with creativity, inquiry, exploration, and hands on learning. As teachers we have a responsibility to ensure their continued passion and excitement for learning.
Our goal is to expose our students to as many learning opportunities that will prepare them for the futures as possible.
We strive to provide our students with hands-on activities that allow them to learn in their own way. My students, like many other first graders, learn best through hands-on activities, projects that get them up and moving while stimulating their creative thinking. We owe it to them to give them every resource possible to reach their full learning potential.
My Project
The hand2mind Daily Math Fluency Kit provides me with everything I need to help my students develop number sense and the ability to reason with numbers and number concepts.
My students will develop numeracy and the ability to use mathematical relationships to reason with numbers and numerical concepts.
In just minutes a day, we will build number sense with math talks and number strings. Math talks and number strings are designed to provide students with opportunities to discuss and use multiple strategies so they can develop a thorough understanding of number sense and number relationships. Without this understanding, students will not be able to properly use the math they have been taught, and they will not be able to progress in other disciplines of math.
This project has a full year of quick daily math activities that will enhance math instruction and help my students become better math problem solvers.
