Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are amazing and resilient. Many are immigrants or from immigrant families. Many are affected by being homeless and neighborhood violence but come to school everyday ready to learn.
In a neighborhood where violence is an everyday part of life, school becomes so much more than just a place to learn.
The students in my classroom recognize the value of an education as a means to a positive future and hopefully, someday a safer community as well.
Our students are English Language Learners in an urban neighborhood. School is their safe haven and a place where they can focus on a positive future. They are eager to learn and take pride in the investment of others in their education.
My Project
Many of my students struggle with math and mathematical concepts. Once of the biggest gaps for many of our fifth grade students seems to be in number fluency. Our hope is that by increasing that skill set we can better work to meet all our students needs.
Daily Math Fluency includes 180 days of instruction designed to develop numeracy and the ability to use mathematical relationships to reason with numbers and numerical concepts.
Daily Math Fluency consists of two major components: a teacher guide with 120 Number Strings and 60 Math Talks. Students Master Fluency Strategies using Visual Models & Manipulatives.
