Math Maniacs crave more fun facts and information!
My amazing fifth grade math students love math, and they want more real world math to do!! I teach two classes of fifth graders at a public school in Chicago. My students are a diverse group of learners, who include English Language Learners, students with special needs, and gifted students. As you can imagine, with such a broad range of students, I must stay on my toes to attend to all of their math needs.
Last year, I began weekly lessons called "real world math" where I would take a real life math situation, and have my students discuss possible solutions. My students loved it, and all students were able to participate.
This year I would like to introduce my students to more real world examples of math. A subscription to DynaMath magazine will help me do that. DynaMath will come to my students once a month and introduce fun math facts, math trivia, and math in everyday careers and situations. I know my students will adore this magazine, and it will help all of my students see the everyday importance of math.
It can be difficult for students to see the value of math sometimes. As adults we appreciate our mathematical knowledge when we shop, balance our checkbooks, create and pay off our debt. For students, it's not always that easy. This magazine, along with my lessons around it, will help bring the importance of math center stage for my students. Please consider funding this proposal.
