Teacher-Ranger-Teacher: Promotes Inquiry, Responsibility and Respect.
I am a teacher-ranger-teacher. The TRT program allows teachers to become park rangers during the summer. Upon returning to the classroom, teachers share their experience and resources with their students. As a teacher in a high-poverty school, I strive to help children obtain an appreciation for our Nation's National Parks. In addition, I have high expectations for all students, despite their backgrounds. My classroom is a caring community that encourages students to become risk-takers. The children take charge of their learning and become responsible citizens. Due to budget cuts in our district, I am teaching a combination class of first and second graders. I have spent three years teaching third grade, and one year servicing the English Language Learners at our school.
My students come from low income households. Therefore, I am forced to buy many of the class materials. Many parents do not provide students with materials, relying on the school. However, our district is severely limiting the amount of money we can spend on supplies. My school currently cannot buy the materials I would appreciate for my classroom.
I would appreciate a class set (27) of addition and subtraction flashcards for my students. It is critical for the students to be able to quickly recall their math facts. I would provide a routine for my students to practice their facts. The students' academic achievement in math would soar if they could quickly recall their basic facts. School is the only time for this practice to happen, as the students do not have the opportunity to practice at home due to various family situations.
Your generous donation would be greatly appreciated. The students would benefit by seeing their individual progress. They would be so proud to know that they have mastered their basic facts in first and second grade!
