Math Facts Essentials

Help me give my students the opportunity to learn and master their basic math facts so that they can excel at higher math.

My Students

My school is a comprehensive Pre-K to 5th grade elementary school of about 500 students. We are a Title I school which means that 87% or more of our students are low-income. We have a high ESOL population. We also have special programs in our schools that services students with special needs. We have a CRI and CRI-Autism program in our building as well as a resource program that services students in the general education setting.

It is a challenge for our school and community to meet all of the needs of our students.

They have such a variety of needs from academic, social-emotional, to physical needs. One of our greatest needs is in the areas of academic achievements. Our students struggle with all academic areas especially in the areas of math across all grade level.

My Project

After surveying all of the 1st to 5th grade teachers regarding math facts, we found that only 20-30% of their students knows their basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division math facts. Some teachers are addressing this problem, while others share that they simply do not have the time. Our students consistently perform way below distract averager. Only 30% of our students perform on or above grade level.

To tackle this dire needs of our students, our school will start a schoolwide math initiative to help our students master their basic math facts so that they can have a chance and an opportunity to excel at higher math.

We need your help to make this possible by providing each classroom teacher a set of flash cards to use daily in their classroom and to provide each classroom with a set of math bingo to add to their centers for whole class or small group practice.
