Math Exploration in Pre-K

My Students

I work with a population of children who receive all day 4 year old preschool.

The goal of my classroom is to expose children to many life experiences, social, and academic skills before kindergarten while adding in discovery and exploration through play.

Much of my class population class would not have a preschool or group experience without this. Many of my children have economic needs. My children are awesome. They are eager, fun, curious, and lovable! I am looking to add more science and math exploration into my classroom this year to further the children’s interest, play, and discovery! All children LOVE to explore and create. They all should have the opportunity.

My Project

The items I have selected for my pre-k classroom are all for use on the light table. The light table serves as a great math and science center for the children to compare, sort, and create. The children will be able to make patterns with counters, create shapes, bead with shape beads, and more. All of these are valuable for early math skills for children. Playing with small manipulatives like these also strengthen the children fine motor skills. The bolt counting activity with also help the children count and match numbers. It will help them learn how to twist and attach small nuts and bolts through math play and exploration.

Math skills are valuable even at an early age; owning and exploring math through play is a great way for children to learn.

The sorting boards, bolts, and beads are all engaging ways to bring math concepts to children at the age of four.
