Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a fourth grade bilingual teacher (Spanish and English) in East New York, Brooklyn. Over 98 percent of our school receives free lunch. The majority of my students speak English and Spanish in my class. Most of my students come from different countries such as the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Ecuador, Honduras and Mexico. My students are hard working, energetic children whose main focus is learning. My students are enthusiastic about learning. They enjoy all subjects, especially math. Please help us integrate math games into our daily lessons.
I recognize that many of my students need improvement in math skills. At this time I am searching for funding to teach math in a more engaging and fun way so that my students can become more confident with their math skills. I am asking for the Lakeshore Geometry Activity Kit. This geometry kit will give my students the concrete practice they need to master challenging math concepts. It will also provide my students the opportunity to engage in real life skills that enhance math learning. This kit set will help each students practice geometry concepts they have learned in our math class. It will allow me to enhance the math curriculum in a fun and interactive manner and meeting level geometry standards.
I am also asking for the Build and Learn Geometry Kit. My students will benefit the most from these hand-on projects by building triangles and rectangular prisms, by identifying faces, edges, and shapes, by describing geometric shapes, and by comparing shapes!
In addition, I am interested in getting the geometry mirrors to help my students explore symmetry and measuring angles. We are also in desperate need of protractors. My students will benefit with these protractors by being able to measure angles correctly and identifying angles. Research proves concrete learning activities enable all learners, especially English as a Second Language students, to improve and generalize academic skills. These tools will allow for independent learning as well as class instruction and most importantly, math skill reinforcement. Thank you for your kind consideration.
