My Students
My students often struggle with math. I want to make math class a fun environment for them so that they want to learn.
My students are 6th and 7th graders from Iowa.
My class usually has the lower performing students who need extra support in the classroom. I teach at a public inner city school. Our school is committed to giving our students a quality education with the limited resources that we have available.
My Project
The calculators that we have to use are scientific calculators. They do fractions and exponents and are not helpful when students are learning how to calculate with fractions or exponents. Having basic calculators will allow the students to learn the concepts without computation interfering. The dry erase boards will help keep the students engaged in the math. They love solving problems on the board, unfortunately they cannot all do that at once. If they each have their own, they can solve the problem and hold up their answers. This will allow me to easily see any problems students are having and make quick corrections before improper practices become habits that are difficult to be unlearned. These items would be a great asset to my math class and will help enrich my students' learning.
My students are 6th and 7th grade students from very different backgrounds.
They have often had negative experiences with math. I want to be able to give them little successes during math class so that they can begin to build their confidence and love of math.
