My students need white boards to allow them to make and fix mistakes during class instruction and materials to be able to participate in math escape rooms during the year.
I teach 100 seventh graders that come from 41 different districts around Connecticut. My students are creative, curious, athletic, organized, disorganized, dramatic, boisterous, chatty, excited, grumpy, forgetful, happy, energetic, challenging, and above all children. They need innovative teachers that work to teach through their environment and interests to truly capture and maximize their learning potential.
I love the look that you see on a child's face when they get what you are trying to teach them because you built off of the knowledge that they already had.
Seventh grade is a tough age, where kids are trying to figure out who they are and how they fit in and it can sometimes be difficult to find their place. My students are always willing to take risks if I start in their playground and build my lesson around it.
My Project
My hope is that my students are able to access the math curriculum and become more curious and confident with math through escape room activities. Lock boxes and locks are a staple of any escape room activity. Students can be given fun ways to review, practice and discover any math concept using an escape room format.
I want my students to be able to experience some of the fun activities that they are seeing on youtube, through an educational lens.
White boards allow students to engage in discovery of math concepts in a low pressure environment during a teacher directed lessons with a fun way to practice their skills.
