My Students
I teach math enrichment to elementary students in an urban setting. My goal is to make math meaningful, appealing and accessible to all students. My students enjoy games that help them to practice their math skills.
My early learners need repetition to learn their basic facts so that they have a strong basic understanding of addition to build upon.
Recognizing numbers and their value is an important first step for my kindergartners. Counting on and using strategies to add two numbers are skills they will need moving forward. I hope to purchase engaging activities that will help to develop these skills.
My Project
I am hoping to purchase 2 different games to help students to enrich their basic math skills in addition/subtraction and understanding the value of coins. The game, Sum Swamp, is one that I have used in classrooms and tutoring to engage students in addition and subtraction as well as odd and even numbers.
The second game, Money Bags, helps students to practice using money and to add the value of different coins.
I see students for whole class math enrichment instruction so I may have up to 30 children playing games at one time. For this reason, I need several game boards. Students will enjoy the games while gaining math skills!
