I love my students because they have to work harder than most. Despite years of being told they weren’t good at something, many of them just need someone that believes in them and teaches them in a different way. We all have some kind of weakness, my students typically have weaknesses that are predominately seen in the classroom. For example my students may have a reading disability, math disability or even challenges organizing thoughts, papers, assignments. Many of my students take longer than most to complete assignments. Some need tests read aloud to them so they can access the material. These students can LEARN! It just takes a different approach or slight modification. That’s what I love about my students! I keep trying to find a way to reach each one.
My Project
Dreambox is just what my students need! It is a great fit for students that have math learning disabilities. Khan Academy is a great program I’ve used in the past. However, it is designed to fit the general needs of average students, gives assessments to determine what students need to work on, and the practice can be fairly difficult for my students. My students struggled following the lessons and staying interested in the practice. My students with special needs would thrive using Dreambox, which is innovative design built to engage, is able to assess needs as they are learn and be very specific in teaching concepts with which they struggle.
Dreambox is a great fit for my students that have a variety of holes in their learning.
These gaps are stumbling blocks and decrease student’s confidence. Dreambox addresses learning challenges by identifying skills and learning deficits of each student.
The math is engaging and teaches the overall concept behind needed skills. There are no formal assessments, rather it continually assesses the student as they play and adjusts to each learners needs. When students struggle, scaffolding is given to help students progress. Specific tasks can be assigned and teachers can monitor progress. This product will help my students improve confidence in math and be a great tool to them achieve their learning objectives.
