My Project

Many times, math gets overlooked in the Pre-K classroom. Many teachers and parents are more focused on a child’s ability to read that math often gets forgotten. Math is just as important as reading. We use math in our everyday lives starting at a very young age. Math isn’t just about learning numbers and facts, but it helps foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Learning these skills early will help prepare them for more advanced math skills in the future.

I am a Pre- K teacher to 20 eager students who love to learn but hate to sit still with a worksheet in front of them.

All students are unique and need diverse ways to learn. Many students need to see math come alive with different manipulatives. They want to be hands-on and need to see it used in different ways that relate to them. This helps them to explore and come to their own understanding of the material. When a child is given an opportunity to come to their own understanding, they are more likely to hold on to the information they have learned.

The math materials I have selected will allow me to make my lessons fun, engaging, and most importantly hands-on. I will be able to create a center dedicated to math in which the students can explore freely.
