Looking to create an in class library of books with mathematics related topics for seventh grade students in a high poverty school district. Such books as "The Math Curse", "The Greedy Triangle", "Sir Cumference", "The First Round Table", "Math Stuff", "Why Buses Come In Threes", "The Handy Dandy Math Answer Book", "Whats Your Angle, Pythagoras?", "Math and Literature", "Mummy Math", "One Grain Of Rice", and "The Number Devil". These books and more will engage the students in exciting mathematical reading quests! Demonstrating to the students that reading can cover more subjects than just the stories and poems they study in literature class. The more exposure and time spent reading will help to raise the students raise their literacy levels. As much of the reading in mathematics is centered around logic and critical thinking these books will help the students' comprehension and analytical skills as well. This will aide them on word problems they face on the Regent's Exams. Critical thinking skills can be utilized throughout their academic careers and become tools with life long benefits.
