This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I spend my days with 25 hardworking, creative five year olds. Almost all of my students don't speak English at home and most of them live in poverty. None of my students have attended school before, so this is their very first experience in a classroom.

I work hard every day to create a thriving environment for my students to love to learn and work hard at mastering new skills.

These students are full of creativity, and love to create fascinating worlds inside these four walls; they come up with exciting adventures to share with one another! These imaginary situations become the starting blocks for story telling, writing, and art masterpieces. Possibilities are endless in the mind of a kindergarten child! My students love to build, and I'd like to provide them with materials to help them continue to enhance their imagination while working on their fine motor skills!

My Project

I am asking for a class set of kid-friendly creative builders. The addition of these activities will provide them with even more creative possibilities! They can use these builders to work on their fine motor skills by connecting them and creating buildings, cars, people, and more - creating yet another fascinating world to share with one another and write about. The best kindergarten instruction is created through play, and these builders are vital learning materials to allow for that. These builders will help the students expand their thought processes and enhance their learning, while enjoying the process.

The addition of creative builders in my kindergarten class will benefit my current students and those for many years to come.

The skills they develop in the building center are vast and reach every area of our curriculum. Without even realizing the math they are doing, children find themselves measuring, comparing, and spatially examining them to see what will best fit their construction. Building and creating is an age-appropriate type of play that extends children's minds far past the center!
