My geometry classes are filled to maximum capacity and students do not have access to computers in the classroom, and I am unable to expose them to online resources. There is useful class material that I have posted online that could help them once they leave the classroom.
My students are of varying levels, but they are all eager to learn during class.
They are also mixed grades because some of them spent a long time struggling through Algebra and some even suffered a fear of math. However, they don't give up. They embrace new concepts and are thoroughly engaged. They are willing to try new things and learn from their mistakes.
My Project
I would like to reach out to students outside of class and allow them to track their progress and growth once they get home. There are many online resources that I would like them to have access to, for example my online gradebook that allows me to communicate with them and share links and handouts with them. Most importantly, they can track their growth and can concretely see which concepts they need to work on. This way they can get more individual attention despite being in a large class. A netbook would allow me to demonstrate how to utilize online tools for math and how they can aid in the learning process.
I feel that this also prepares my students for college, where they have to be more proactive in using resources outside of the classroom to supplement concepts they are studying and to spark new ideas and connections.
