Math Class Manipulatives-A More Hands-On Approach

Help me give my students an interactive experience in math class by providing more manipulatives (including white boards/markers, dice, cards, and a power strip to encourage them to charge their phone rather than be on it).

My Project

An interactive experience helps students remember concepts and be more engaged in their learning. Providing students with a low-stakes material such as a personal whiteboard and marker, they will feel less pressure to be correct and make more effort towards learning in a subject that many struggle with. Having over a hundred students means that the markers are likely to dry out quickly especially when rushing students forget to close the marker all the way before leaving. Having extra markers will allow students to participate throughout the entirety of the school year. Including hands-on materials such as decks of cards and dice can make learning feel more like a game and engage students that would otherwise not try or who are simply not interested in math. Having as many manipulatives as possible will help make math feel less like confusion and stress more like an exciting game with peers.

Phone use has increased the last few years and is a distraction we can't completely get away from.

Having a power strip next to my already existing phone-home allows students to detach from their phones and recharge them without having to worry about being right next to a plug.
