Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income, high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges, both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

I am blessed and honored to have the opportunity to work with such diverse and passionate students every day.

My class is a truly a family who uplifts each other and encourages each other to grow each and every day. We have every type of student in my class with a large majority ESL, special education inclusion, and every one of them are creative and insightful thinkers that give it their all every day.

Many of them receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, they are happy and excited to be here. I may not be able to control their home lives; however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day.

My Project

Often times, students will feel frustrated when they come to school and don't have the necessary supplies. Because we are a low income school, most of our families can not afford supplies. I want students to feel successful when they come to school every day. Students will need calculators for everyday math calculations, pencils and erasers, dry erase markers, and file folders for their work. The teacher's desk moves unexpectedly, so a sturdy desk is needed to conference with students and work one-on-one.

This creates a positive classroom culture and enables students to want to work hard in math when they might struggle through some of the material.
