This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am really enjoying my role as a math support teacher at my school. I am no longer supporting one class of students, but all students that need additional support in lower and upper grades at my school! Everyday that I meet with my students, I see the varying needs within the grade level span that I service. In order to support them I have been taking note on additional material that I may need for my students.

Students need hands-on math manipulatives to gain a firm conceptual understanding of number sense in order to become successful in math!

We use a lot of manipulatives along with writing tools such as dry erase markers, boards, and towels throughout the intervention block. This is repeated more than 8 times throughout the day, 35 minute blocks at a time. We need a fresh refresh of these basic, yet important items for the new year. We also need a replenishment of cardstocks, sheet protectors, laminating sheets, and other basic office supplies that are crucial in our math intervention routines.

Sometimes my students and I are so focused on our work that we lose track of time. At the end of our period, we sometimes dump all our supplies in the teacher cart before I run off to the next group. This isn't working. We need a consistent way to keep ourselves organized so that I am organized for the other subsequent groups. Though handy, Ziplock bags aren't strong enough, so the reusable and durable mesh bags along with the storage buckets will help store our important tools safe and organized.
