Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Learning is often interrupted, and valuable time lost by students not having access to basic supplies in the classroom such as pencils and Kleenex. Giving students access to these necessary supplies will allow for greater student focus, motivation and success in the classroom.
These supplies are desperately needed in Algebra, Geometry, and Financial Algebra classes.
Math classrooms need these supplies now more than ever before with the SAT and PSAT tests rapidly approaching in April. Students' time is extremely valuable, and we cannot afford to lose even a minute. The calculator holder will be a huge time saver and organizational tool as well, as I plan on carefully labeling each slot and assigning each student their own calculator.
My students are joyful and eager to learn and succeed. They are funny, kind and compassionate, and extremely determined. 80% of students are ELL, and 40% are newcomers to the United States. We accept new students throughout the school year, receiving at least 10 - 15 new students per quarter. Having full access to these basic supplies will help all students, especially newcomers, feel welcome, comfortable, cared for, and well prepared for class.
