Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A typical day in our classroom consists of predictable routines to foster independence among students. I provide various hands-on materials to engage students in the learning process and I strongly encourage communication and collaboration through teamwork.

Our elementary school is a Title I school.

70% of my students are on free/reduced lunch and more than 60% of my students are English Language Learners. Our school is in Phoenix, Arizona, and we have a diverse student population. Many of our students walk to school as we are located in the middle of a neighborhood and walking distance from several apartment complexes. My fourth-grade students are high-energy and incredibly creative. They enjoy talking with each other, as well as sharing stories about themselves when they make connections between our curriculum and their everyday lives.

My Project

The materials we are requesting will be used to create engaging, hands-on learning centers for students to learn and review their mathematics skills. Materials include Math Bingo Games, Magna-Tiles, Multiplication and Division Math Tower, and Fraction manipulatives.

These centers will support students in developing the necessary skills to become 21st Century learners.

Students will strengthen their skills in communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity. Donations to this project will help improve our classroom by giving my students the opportunity to routinely practice their mathematic skills.

The mathematics centers will help them learn how to work independently on skill-building without the teacher. Moreover, students will have the opportunity to collaborate with peers and communicate effectively towards a common goal. Ultimately, the centers will also help me differentiate my instruction to meet the diverse needs and interests of my students.
