I am incredibly grateful to everyone who supported this project and helped provide my students with high-quality decodable books and a welcoming classroom rug. These resources have positively influenced both student learning and our classroom community every single day.\r\n\r\nThe decodable books quickly became one of the most valuable additions to our classroom library. At the beginning of the school year, many of my students entered kindergarten with little or no reading experience. Having access to books that matched the phonics skills we were learning in class gave my students the confidence to see themselves as readers. Instead of becoming frustrated with books that were too difficult, they were able to practice decoding words independently and experience success. I watched students eagerly choose these books during independent reading time, partner reading, and literacy centers because they felt capable and proud of what they could read on their own.\r\n\r\nThe classroom rug had an equally important impact, even though it supported learning in a different way. Our rug became the heart of our classroom—a place where we gathered every morning for our class meeting, shared stories during read-alouds, celebrated accomplishments, practiced phonics lessons, solved math problems together, and ended each day reflecting on our learning. It created a comfortable and inviting space where students felt safe, connected, and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nFor many kindergarten students, school is their first experience in a structured learning environment. Having a bright, welcoming space helped ease first-day jitters and encouraged students to build positive relationships with one another. Throughout the year, the rug served as more than just a place to sit. It became a place where friendships were formed, classroom discussions flourished, and students learned how to work together respectfully. It truly helped create the warm and supportive classroom environment that every young learner deserves.\r\n\r\nOne of the greatest joys this year was watching my students develop confidence—not only as readers but also as learners. The combination of engaging literacy resources and a welcoming classroom environment encouraged students to take risks, ask questions, and celebrate their progress. Students who were initially hesitant to participate began volunteering to read aloud, share their thinking, and help classmates. Seeing that growth reminded me how much the right resources can influence a child's attitude toward school.\r\n\r\nThis project has continued to make an impact long after the initial excitement of receiving the materials. The books and rug are resources that will continue serving future kindergarten students for years to come. Every new class will benefit from having access to engaging decodable texts and a comfortable space where they can learn, grow, and build relationships.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in my students and investing in their education. Your generosity has had a lasting effect that reaches far beyond the supplies themselves. You helped create a classroom where children feel welcomed, supported, and empowered to become confident readers and enthusiastic learners. The smiles, growth, and excitement I witnessed throughout the year are a direct result of your kindness, and I am so thankful for the difference you have made in the lives of my students.","fullyFundedDate":1746627898827,"projectUrl":"project/first-year-in-kindergarten/9261324/","projectTitle":"First Year in Kindergarten!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Brown","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10002123"},{"teacherId":8329440,"projectId":9910517,"letterContent":"The students are happy with the accessibility to headphones at their desks. Because of you, my classroom now has sensory tools and calming resources that truly meet students where they are and help them feel safe, supported, and ready to learn. These tools are used every day, especially during transitions and work times, and they have already helped students regulate their emotions and refocus more independently.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, their faces lit up with excitement. They were eager to explore the tools and immediately began sharing their favorite and which one helped them feel calm or focused. For some students, simply knowing these tools are available has brought a sense of comfort and reassurance. They feel seen, understood, and empowered to take ownership of their learning.\r\n\r\nThe organizational folders and materials have also made a meaningful difference. I can now keep materials clearly organized. This has strengthened my ability to meet each student's individual needs.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, these resources will continue to be an essential part of Madison students I work with routines. As a Title I school, many of my students arrive at school hungry, and it's been incredible to see how the regular availability of snacks—thanks to you—has affected our students.\r\n\r\nIt is a scientific truth that a hungry stomach affects a child's ability to learn. Fueling the body with energy is essential for the brain to function optimally; without it, students struggle with concentration, memory, and managing their emotions. Your contributions provided the much-needed energy that has literally fueled students' minds for learning. They reacted with pure joy and gratitude when they first saw the snack basket, and there's a tangible difference in their focus throughout the school day. \r\n\r\nThe impact of this project will continue as we move forward. It was such a joy to watch their energy and teamwork as they learned to organize games and cheer one another on during recess.\r\n\r\nNow, every morning, our students look forward to their active playtime outside. We keep all the equipment neatly in a bag and basket in our room and bring it out for recess, ensuring that everything is cared for and ready to go each day. The basketballs, soccer balls, and jump ropes have become favorites not only in our class but among our entire grade level—students from other classes often join in, playing together on the basketball court, the soccer field, and in the gaga pit. These moments of play have encouraged cooperation, exercise, and laughter, all of which have strengthened our school community.\r\n\r\nYour kindness has made a lasting impact by giving our students a way to engage with each other beyond the classroom and stay active.
