My students need tons of interactive, hands on math center games and somewhere for me to put those awesome centers. I am also creating a Reading Corner and they will need a comfy rug to sit.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am coming up on my second year as a teacher working in a Title I, Equity Plus school in Winston Salem, NC. This means that most of my students come from low income families and most of my students have very few resources in their homes. These children are so bright and eager to learn!
Because of the climate of the neighborhood, my students are faced with many challenges inside and outside of school.
I want to help them be the best student that they can be, by giving them opportunity. I want all of my students to have a unbelievable third grade experience that they will remember for the rest of their life.
My Project
By getting these materials, I will be able to teach my students in a different way. They need to be in small groups working with games during math class so they can understand better and take their understanding to real life examples. That is the hardest part for most children, taking this complex idea of numbers and applying it to real situations.
Well, center work and games allow students to see these numbers in that way, and to have fun while they don't even know they are!
The items that I am requesting are games and puzzles that match the 3rd grade curriculum. Time/Measurement, operations, place value, and fractions. These are the major units that we teach to students in 3rd. These folder games/puzzles will allow students to work individually on the specific area they are struggling with during the year. Games like these are perfect for review, higher level thinking, and developing group-work skills.
The cubical organizer will be a great place to easily store all of these folder games and puzzles so that the students can easily access them as well.
I have also included a box of LEGOs. Students do very well with STEM activities and building things allows students to explore their creative side while developing their fine motor skills further.
I am also trying to create a whole section of my classroom strictly to grow the students love for reading. They don't want to sit on a hard floor and read a book, they should be sitting comfortably on a rug with hundreds of books surrounding them in a fun section of the room.
