My Students

My students come from a very diverse range of home structures. They live with families that are nuclear, single parent, multiple-family, foster and military families. My students are fourth graders who love learning. The majority of my students come from low, socioeconomic backgrounds. More than sixty-five percent of our students receive free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch.

My students have learning or emotional disabilities and many have multiple diagnoses.

Our school can be described as a fun, caring and creative environment for our students to come to daily.

From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives; however, I can certainly control their experiences during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I hope to inspire my learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.

My Project

My students have started math centers and I want to make centers fun for them so they will stay interested in the math centers all school year. Being a special education teacher, I have groups of students with me throughout the school day that are on several different math levels. We have multiple different groups and centers going at any given time.

I will use the easel to make anchor charts for the walls.

Since it is magnetic, students will be able to complete work on it with magnetic numbers. My students needs pens, pencils, highlighters and markers to write with while they are in centers. We have a technology center were students complete activities to become fluent with their math facts. Headphones are needed so they can hear and not bother other students. Some students need flashcards to take home and other need the flashcards to work with a partner in class.
