Math Centers for Awesome Kids with Autism

My students need mathematics centers that will keep them engaged and interested in learning. The Counting and Place Value folders and Patterning and sorting folders will provide hands-on activities that will allow students to work independently.

My Students

I am a Special Education teacher at an urban school in New Haven, Connecticut. My students are in First to Fourth grade. I will work with students who are highly impacted by Autism Spectrum Disorder. I try to make learning fun for my students and use a multi-sensory approach.

Hands-on centers are essential to my students' learning.

Each child has individual goals that they are working on in mathematics. My student have social, behavioral and communication challenges that impact their ability to learn.

My Project

My first to fourth grade students each have unique needs and skills. Motivation is key to getting students interested in learning. These materials will keep my students on-task and focused. Using math centers will help increase independence and engagement. The folder activities will provide students with hands-on work that they can complete on their own. This will build students confidence.

Math Centers will create opportunities for students to learn functional math skills.

My students have limited expressive communication skills. The Match-Up activities will allow my nonverbal students to show what they know. The Simple Subtraction and Addition Family Engagement pack will be used to teach the skills and increase interaction between my students. The can work together to solve addition and subtraction problems.
