Help me give my students the opportunity to see math in different ways through literature as well as having hands on experiences.

My Students
I teach math to two fifth grade classes in Brownsville. My students are eager to come to school to learn something new each day. They are students who are creative and like to take risks. They are eager to try new tasks and are always ready for a challenge.
My students love to work in groups to solve challenges.
My students find that nothing is too hard to achieve, always exercising resilience. My students each come with a unique set of strengths contributing to the success of cooperative learning. They are most productive when working in groups and enjoy a sense of community and co-dependency.
My Project
Recently I’ve completed a program in which I’ve been trained to
connect math and literacy in order to promote interdisciplinary learning.
The supplies I need would benefit my students in achieving the goals set forth by presenting them with stories and activities that would allow them to form text-to-world connections. Students will be encouraged to read these books on a daily basis as they will be made available in our class library. The ultimate goal is for students to develop proficiency in reading and math literacy in preparation to pursue higher educational goals in subjects such as financial literacy. In addition, students will be tasked to use the interactive math in cooperative groups to develop community in learning.
I have trial used literature in my class to teach Math. I find that the students are more engaged and excited to face the math challenges I throw out to them, because the words give life to the numbers, transforming the abstract into the concrete.
Unfortunately, much to my dismay, there is great disparity between the resources of my classroom and those of affluent districts. My classroom is lacking in math literature which limits the progress of my students. My students do not have the opportunity to fully experience math through literature, but I am hoping that this project is funded and my students can experience the endless opportunities that await them.
