This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Help us learn numbers! My classroom math center needs a makeover. After years of collecting hands on materials and borrowing from other teachers, it is time for my students to have some developmentally appropriate materials to help them learn basic math skills.
My students are 5 and 6 years old.
They attend a school in a low income area. Many of my students are English Language Learners, whose parents do not speak English. They are extremely active and love to learn by doing. It is very important to have materials to keep these children engaged.
My Project
These math manipulatives and games will give my students a chance to practice what I am teaching them. The majority of the time I teach in small groups. With these games and materials my students can be actively involved in a math center while I am reteaching a skill that some students have not yet mastered. While the students are in math centers, I will be able to work closely with a small group and know that my students are meeting the grade level expectations.
My students will be so eager to learn with these new math materials.
So often our students do not get opportunities to have brand new things. Many times, games are missing pieces or not complete. These brand new math materials will make my math center their favorite center.
