My Students

This upcoming year I’m embarking on a new adventure! I’m moving to a school that provides services to students and individuals (preschool - age 21) with severe cognitive and physical impairments. This school services individual with severe disabilities within the district and other local districts that exhibit a need for highly specialized educational support for individual students. I couldn't be more excited to begin this new adventure.

These students work so hard, despite the many challenges they face because of disabilities, disrupted home lives, being homeless or in danger of homelessness, and living in poverty.

Our classroom will truly be like their home away from home. In our classroom,​ we will be a family, and everyone will work to do their best and to be their best every day.

My Project

Since having my new crop of kids for a month now I have learned so much about them and how they learn best. One thing I have learned is that’s they truly love art! I am working hard every week to incorporate as many art projects into our math lessons as possible but I need more supplies! Beads and ribbon will allow us to create pattern bracelets and necklaces. We’re going to create a money mobile with the ribbon, crayons, and construction paper to help learn coin names and values. Sensory items like sand, sequins, and water beads are fun items to hide coins in while students hunt for them then identify what they find. Finally, laminating pouches will allow me to create visually appealing financial literacy games for hands on fun learning experiences during math groups. All of these items will be utilized to help students learn all about coins and money to become more financially literate individuals!
