My Students
My students are a great group of kids. They are 9th graders with Autism and other developmental disabilities or special learning needs. They need more than a teacher who tells them what to do; they need an adult who will listen to them and work with them on their individual needs.
In the words of Temple Grandin, "Kids have to be exposed to different things in order to develop.
A child’s not going to find out he likes to play a musical instrument if you never exposed him to it."
My classroom assistant and I create a positive and interactive learning environment where our kids know that they are welcome, they are loved, they are appreciated, they are safe and they can succeed.
My Project
Math has always been a challenging subject for my students and I am always looking for ways to create more opportunities to incorporate math in my classroom. This year I'd like to integrate practical math books into our learning centers to help make math more of an immersive experience. The set of math books would not only help strengthen their math skills but also help with their reading comprehension as well.
My students would greatly benefit from the Math Library as it will help strengthen not only their math skills but their reading comprehension as well.
