This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our young children need as much exposure to math as possible. Connecting math to reading and other areas of the curriculum get them thinking about math all the time. We want to set these children up for lifelong success.
We are a small charter school that supports children with special needs in inclusion classrooms and through a resource room.
We are in an urban area with failing public schools. Our students are excited about learning and love reading, math and science. I work with children with special needs in their inclusion classrooms and in the resource room. All of my students are preschool and prekindergarten age.
My Project
Math is so important to get kids excited about, especially early on. My kids enjoy playing math games and reading fun stories that "sneak" in math concepts. I am requesting books to supplement our math curriculum at school. Integrating math into other curriculum areas will really help students to have a better understanding of these early math concepts. We also like to make math books with the children that they will take home to encourage them to continue practicing and learning.
Exposing children to math concepts early in a fun way will build a strong foundation of skills that they will build off of later.
It also gets them excited about math and teaches them that math is fun.
