This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from a variety of diverse backgrounds. I have second-language learners, native English speakers, students with autism, struggling readers, avid readers, ADD and ADHD students, and students from low and middle-class families.
At my school, we believe in "no excuses!" My students know that wherever they come from has little bearing on where they're going.
It is up to them and the choices they make to help them succeed. We have high academic and behavior expectations, and the students rise to meet the challenges set before them.
My Project
Many of my students this year have some academic gaps due to learning at home all last year. I'd like them to have a variety of math manipulatives to help them learn basic concepts, such as place value, money, and addition/subtraction. They need to be able to see and hold these learning tools to help them cement the concepts in their minds.
When students use manipulatives, it aids them in visually comprehending the lesson.
Some students need to work with their hands in order to help their brains process the learning task.
