My Students

We are in the heart of Chinatown where the bulk of the students receive free or reduced price lunch. My students are full of energy who strive to learn something new everyday. They enjoy different activities from playing sports to chess to singing in our school's glee club.

Many of them live in single room apartments or even share with extended family members.

Also, a good number of them come from families who do not speak English and are relied upon for translations. They have big shoes to fill, but they also need to get the education themselves first.

My students yearn to increase their academic levels and demonstrate their ability every chance they have. They want to expand their knowledge and prove that "Yes, I made that happen!"

My Project

My students love to solve all kinds of puzzles and they need math manipulatives to help them. Instead of just using a pencil and paper to solve algorithms, students will be able to use a spinner to locate an outcome. Students will also be able to use graph paper to draw out their solutions on a given situation. The 1-in. Grid Roll will help during demonstrations when students are working on group projects and presentations. Blokus, Mastermind, and Mancala are thinking activities that will enhance students' problem solving ability. With these resources, my students will have a better opportunity to work on math besides the traditional pencil and paper method.
