My students need math problem solving cards, Common Core practice cards, and literature that will help them make connections between the two subjects.

My Students

Does your stomach tighten at the thought of trying to solve a math word problem? Math anxiety is a real problem!

My students are in a battle every day to get their basic needs met, let alone the little extras which could enhance their education.

We are a Title 1 school, and over 96% of our students receive a free/reduced price lunch. Our students are from diverse cultural backgrounds and speak many different languages.

My Project

I want one of those many languages to be math! What better way to teach math and problem solving than using literacy skills and books that they love? My students feel confident in their reading skills and I want to help them carry that over to math. I want to teach them that they can use the same strategies that they are using to comprehend fiction and nonfiction texts in math. The math practice cards and the literature that I have requested, will help to ease their fears. Word problems will no longer be a "scary monster" and a cause of anxiety.

By donating to this project you will be helping to decrease math anxiety in my classroom.

These materials will help my students to be better prepared for solving word problems and feel more confident in their abilities to do so.
