Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

All my students are always so eager to learn and love when we do hands on activities. They love making connections between what they are learning in the classroom and with the world outside. They are always ready to try new things and are grateful when they have access to materials that are engaging or that help them stay focused on what we are doing in class.

Though they have a wide range of abilities, each of my students shines in their own way.

They are hard working, creative, and always full of questions. We use a variety of learning methods in our classroom. Over the past year and a half learning has looked different for my students. They have not always had access to the right materials and many have fallen behind. Now that they are back in school, they are learning how to do school all over again and need resources that will help keep them engaged and wanting to learn.

My Project

In fifth grade, students learn a lot about fractions, decimals, and place value. These concepts are difficult for their minds to grasp, especially when many have fallen behind due to lack of resources/technology during the time we had to be learning virtually. Having the teaching aids will help the students have something concrete to look at and manipulate to drive those concepts home. They will also help to keep them engaged and excited about math.

Students need social interaction and exposure to the world around them.

This is something they have been missing during this pandemic. Bringing additional books that discuss important figures from diverse backgrounds will open a window to other cultures and experiences they may not have themselves.
