This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Many of the students at our school have no past experience with formal education. The students in my class are economically diverse but have a love for learning.
The opportunity to mold a young mind to be respectful of all living creatures and to keep an open mind to new opportunities, people, places, and food is exciting.
There is a large impact that I have, and I take that very seriously. My students are always eager to share their experiences and they tend to teach me a lot about myself and the world around me. I love meeting each new group of children and discovering all about them as they change and grow throughout the year. And finally, I love the opportunities to get creative. Not just creative in art, but in the way I teach, the songs we use, and the layout of my classroom.
My Project
My math center is a place that my students explore number and quantity concepts, patterns and sorting, and shapes. These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create and provide engaging ways to weave math into the day. During large and small groups, I will read aloud the books and invite my students to explore the math concepts further. My students will love counting like pigs, measuring like inchworms, and making comparisons. Some of these books will be placed in my Math Center for my students to explore and expand mathematical knowledge and skills. My young scholars will enjoy having hands-on activity experiences with these concepts.
