Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work in a low socio economic school district and most of my students come from poverty. The population of my students is mostly Hispanic. I want the best for my students, as do their parents. Even though parents may not be able to afford the best school supplies, they make sure they have as much as they can. These parents want their children to succeed and have a every opportunity to better their lives. The parents are supportive of the teachers and try to do their part making sure their children give 100%, even if most do not speak English.
My students deserve the best.
They deserve what other districts give their students that I can't give.
My Project
My students need math literature, such as Learning About Math Book Set, Math Stories Paperback Library and three paperbacks to promote fluency and introduce math skills. First graders love to be read to and what better way to introduce or reinforce a math concept than by reading a fun book? My students come from homes that do not always give support when it comes to helping their children become fluent readers or practice their math skills.
Reading every day to my students is sometimes the only time they are read to.
By using math literature in my classroom, not only am I promoting fluency and the love to read, but a fun way to show how math is used every day. Nothing makes my heart happier than seeing my students love reading and math and seeing their fluency and math skills improve throughout the year.
