This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students have very big hearts and truly make do with what they have. For some, school is their safe haven from extremely poverty-stricken and violent homes. My students are in a very low-income community. They are kind and loving but may not get all the things they need. I have really gotten to know these students in our building and their families very well. I have already learned that I have children who come from needy families. Some of my children come from split families where they may or may not see one or both parents. I am very lucky to be able to touch these kiddos' lives. They are very creative and love to be able to explore their learning world through my classroom.
Each child in the class has his or her own unique personality that has really brought our community together.
They are very creative and are starting to really enjoy the academic world and are improving every day.
My Project
The project I am submitting is to help make learning more fun with students while we enter into a hybrid model of learning. Many of the learners who are coming back are a little timid to do so with such uncertain times. Crayons and markers are limited and will make their artwork beautiful.
We are trying to bridge the learning gap that has occurred with so much time outside of the school building.
Our students get encouraged when models can be displayed in a fun and concrete way. The monster balance, magnetic clock, and place value items are going to be utilized to be able to help them have fun in math.
I am also asking for a voice amplifier to help aid in teaching in-person and virtual learn simultaneously. We have to wear masks, and I am afraid that someone will not be able to hear me. Phonics is huge in first grade, and already some people are hitting roadblocks that have gone into buildings and/or tried using masks. I am hoping this will help with their hearing as well as preventing vocal strain.
