This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Most of my students are English learners attending our Title I school. They come from diverse backgrounds and many speak other languages such as Spanish, Pashto, Farsi, Arabic, Mongol, Japanese, Vietnamese, and many more. They come eager to learn despite the challenges of not speaking English or speaking very little English. Their families are also enthusiastic to help their students learn and teach their students the curriculum in their own languages so that their students understand the concepts being taught in the classroom.
My Project
The kindergarteners will benefit greatly from these materials by helping them build a good foundation in math. They will manipulate the materials to help them add, subtract, compare numbers, explore shapes and their attributes, measure, and count objects using one-to-one correspondence.
Not only are these materials part of STEM, they also help with fine motor skills which are crucial in their academic success.
The Kindergarteners will also learn how to problem solve as they manipulate puzzle pieces to create a complete art picture. The students will also learn how to cooperate, share, play, and communicate with each other respectfully and kindly.
