I teach in a district with a cultural diversity that would rival many metropolises. Having a student body that is so diverse both in culture and in learning abilities makes the job of teaching a challenge most days. Having the tools that would make it easier to reach more of my students would make a huge difference. So many of my students are first year in the US, so the language skills are not as high as they need to be and not being able to leave up examples for them to follow along with as we work makes it harder than it needs to be for them especially.
Can you leave that problem up all the class?
Can you work that part again slower, but leave up the completed problem too so that we can look back and forth as we go through the assignment? I received new white boards this school year; however, in order to erase writing on them you have to use whiteboard cleaner and a microfiber cloth twice to remove the residue. Replacing them with a more durable option would help with all of these problems on a daily basis.
My Project
Brainstorming is a great way of building a sense of community through Project based and Cooperative Learning is a necessary skill everyone needs when entering their post high school lives and with these supplies and support, students will be to hone these skills. Having these supplies ready and at their disposal is a great way to facilitate learning through sharing ideas. With the diversity found in our school often the best and easiest way to communicate ideas is through written and artistic expression. I use cooperative projects in my classroom and being able to share ideas more readily I can facilitate growth and learning at the same time.
