My Students

My students come to school each day excited and ready to learn. They are just beginning to develop their number sense and mathematical reasoning skills. Kindergarten is such an important year in becoming a successful student.

I have 25 kindergartners with varied academic experience.

My students speak multiple languages and have a variety of learning styles. Our school is a California public elementary school with a great reputation. Our school is innovative in its willingness to try progressive teaching strategies and learning philosophies. We take pride in our school's collaborative work ethic. We are constantly challenging ourselves to re-evaluate our practices and look for better ways of doing things.

My Project

Kindergartners are clever and creative! This is the perfect time to encourage their problem solving and engineering talents. The Next Generation Science standards expect students to Analyze and Interpret Data along with Develop and Use Models. These new materials will give my students opportunities to do all of those things.

A strong number sense is essential to Analyze and Interpret data.

The Unifix cubes and numbers lines will allow my students to solve complex problems in a concrete manner allowing them to develop a conceptual understanding of math practices. The die and sequence puzzles will allow my students to play number games and practice the number counting sequence. All of these activities will help develop a strong number sense in my students.

Exciting block play allows my students opportunities to Develop and Use Models. The block people, traffic signs and community signs will engage my students many times over to build and create cities with their friends. The ramps and balls exploration set will allow my students to explore the forces that push and pull and encourage them to create explanations about force and stability. My students will love playing with these materials, all the while developing engineering skills. We learn best when we are having fun and these materials will create a fun learning environment.
