Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have 350 dedicated math students who are part of an amazing blended learning program that wants to learn by doing.
My students' lives are hard enough - math needs to be fun and meaningful to them.
Some live in shelters, some are the main caretakers for younger siblings, and some do not know where their next meal is going to come from. Despite all of this, students come to my math class wanting to learn. Even with all of this hardship, my students are determined to succeed. Last year, our students grew an average of 1.4 grade levels in one school year. This year, I want all of my students to grow 1.6 grade levels.
My Project
Students in our blended math learning program need to show evidence of their learning. Students work in task groups of a series of three weeks to solve real-world problems. To make it easier for them to be organized, students need bins to store their project work in the classroom. This will help organize them and assist with productive group work where students are not searching their backpacks for missing supplies or work products.
Students need to show reasoning and evidence of math learning.
With 120 students in a classroom at one time, our students need to showcase their work often. To help them do this, we need dry erase markers. Imagine the noise caused when a pencil is being sharpened by an electric pencil sharpener. Imagine the inconvenience of a dull pencil. Help our students stay on task by donating to our cause and providing them with pencils and pencil sharpeners.
