This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
A true beacon in the Bronx, my school supports the needs of a diverse community of learners. Of the 435 congressional districts in the country, we are number 1. While it usually a good thing to be considered the "top of the list", for us it means that our students go without supplies, technology, extra curricular activities and sometimes without dinner. My students get so excited when they see themselves growing and learning. Aside from teacher feedback, there are many computer-based programs that differentiate activities and give instant feedback to the students. One such program is called iReady. Through iReady lessons, students are exposed to tasks that require them to think abstractly and reasonably, become fluent in mathematical discourse and learn to defend their answers with sound explanations. Data is then analyzed in real time and given back to students and teachers which then allows for immediate adjustment in instruction.
Students love to see their progression through the e-activities and are motivated to go back and keep trying!
I would love to get computers into the room so that students can use these programs regularly to enhance their classroom learning and help bridge the gap between textbook and digital learning.
My Project
Education in the 21st century has evolved and my students need the proper tools to keep up! With only one working computer, my classroom is lacking the technology it needs to help me bring mathematics to life. These computers will be used in small group and independent work sessions. Students will use them to access internet-based programs like iReady, Khan Academy and more.
From digital learning programs like iReady, to mathematics channels on YouTube For Kids, the opportunities for my students to interact with and become accustomed to technology as a means for in depth learning are endless!
Every child needs access to a computer! Please help me give them the gift of learning in a modern classroom!
