Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students cover a full spectrum at our diverse campus. They vary in race, culture, socioeconomic status, and interests. Our campus serves approximately 635 students in grades 7th through 8th who are between the ages of 12 and 14.
Ethnically, our students are approximately 87% minority, with 45% being Latin American, 26% African American, and 13% Asian and Pacific Islander.
About 25% of our students are currently English Language Learners. Our special education students make up 10% of the entire site.
Math is a battleground in Middle School, and the achievement gap is a real barrier we are fighting through every day. I hope that every student will find math, fun, and intriguing. I want to inspire a love of math and a passion for working through a problem. Math teaches us so much more than just how to add and subtract; it teaches us to think and question.
My Project
Students learn math by interacting with the material and working through challenges until they break through into not only knowledge but understanding.
Currently, my students struggle to see what is being projected and can’t even begin to engage in the material.
Displaying every lesson in a beautiful 4K display allows students the necessary access needed to learn to their maximum potential on a daily basis.
Math is a subject that only improves only by working with it every day. Like learning to walk, we struggle, adapt, grow, and develop until it becomes natural. But how do you learn when the material is hidden from you?
This project will give my students access to material in a way they have never experienced before. This will give students access to online videos and student presentations while also allowing me to integrate their love of technology with the math that is so vital to their success in life.
